گروهی از دانشمندان به رهبری پروفسور مادوسودهان از دانشگاه کمبریج، با کمک داده‌های تلسکوپ فضایی جیمز وب، مولکول‌هایی را در جو سیاره K2-18b در فاصلهء ۱۲۴ سال نوری (چهراَختر شیر/اسد)، شناسایی کرده‌اند که تنها توسط موجودات زنده تولید می‌شود، از جمله دی‌متیل سولفید و دی‌متیل دی‌سولفید. این سیاره دارای اقیانوس‌هایی گسترده بوده و به دور یک کوتوله سرخ می‌چرخد.
تا چند سال پیش، باور بر این بود، تنها ستاره‌ای که سیاره دارد، خورشید است! اما داده‌های تلسکوپ هابل، این نظریه را منسوخ کرد. سپس اعلام شد، در هیچ جایی به جز زمین، حیات پدید نیامده است! اما این بار هم، جیمز وب دکان هواداران این دیدگاه غیرعلمی را بر هم زد.
راه شیری از پرآشوب‌ترین کهکشان‌ها و خورشید (طیف نور زرد) جزو ستاره‌های خطرناک برای حیات است. کهکشان‌هایی بسیار آرام‌تر در جهان هست و نیز ستاره‌های کوتوله سرخ که میزبانان به مراتب بهتری برای پشتیبانی از حیات هستند و شمارشان هم در گیتی، بسیار فراوان است.

A team of scientists led by Professor Madhusudhan from the University of Cambridge, using data from the James Webb Space Telescope, have identified molecules in the atmosphere of the planet K2-18b, 124 light-years away (in the Leo Constellation), that are produced only by living organisms, including dimethyl sulfide and dimethyl disulfide. The planet has vast oceans and orbits a red dwarf.
Until a few years ago, it was believed that the only star with a planet was the Sun! But data from the Hubble Telescope made this theory obsolete. Then it was announced that life had not arisen anywhere except Earth! But this time, James Webb has shaken the minds of the supporters of this unscientific view.
The Milky Way is one of the most turbulent galaxies, and the Sun (yellow light spectrum) is one of the most dangerous stars for life. There are much calmer galaxies in the universe, and red dwarf stars that are much better hosts for supporting life, and they are very numerous in the universe.

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity.
